If you are buying a new home or even if you have an existing home you may want to have you water system tested for potential contaminants.  Even though our tap water and water systems are considered to be among the safest in the world, water contamination can still occur.

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency)  sets standards and regulations for the presence and levels of over 90 contaminants in public drinking water, including E.coli, Salmonella, Cryptosporidium, metals such as lead, and disinfection byproducts.

For Private well owners

The EPA does regulate public drinking water supplies, but private wells are not regulated by the agency. Owners of private wells are responsible for maintaining and testing their water system.

There are several water quality indicators (WQIs) and contaminants that should be tested for in any well system.

The most common water tests are for Fecal coliform bacteria and Nitrates/Nitrites.
