The good, the bad the, not so ugly – Multicolored Asian Lady beetles

Published by Don Hester on

I know I am wired a bit differently when it comes to insects. But I often find insects interesting.

So I was doing a little cleaning and saw this cool looking bug crawling around and I had to investigate.

What I find is a larva just meandering about and I take a photo of it. Next I had to identify the insect which can be a bit of a challenge, but I did.

I discovered that it Is a Multicolored Asian Lady Beetle larvae. I guess I didn’t know this is what they look like in their larval stage. The Multicolored Asian lady beetle can be a pest in numerous numbers but is a very beneficial insect. He will prey on aphids and other soft body insects. Which is good for those gardeners out there. The Multicolored Asian lady beetle is like many other ladybugs which most find pretty.

So before you freak out just think about what could be crawling about, it could be good (eating bad insects), or bad (if they become a nuisance) or not so ugly in their adult form.

So, before you swat, smack or squish take some time to find out what it is.
