Check your Double Check Valve- Quincy and Moses Lake Home Inspections
We all want safe clean water at our home. It is something we all take for granted.
Something very common in Chelan and Douglas Counties is backflow devices. The most common are double check valves (DC) and reduced pressure principle assemblies (RP).
These devices prevent water from things like sprinkler/irrigation lines and other sources that could contaminate the potable water system through back-siphonage. Or otherwise called a cross connection.
These devices are on the home owners side of the water meter so it is the responsibility of the home owner to prevent this cross connection.
The most common issue with these devices is that they have not been tested or maintained and most do not know that they need to be tested.
Backflow/double check valve are your protection from potential contamination of everyone’s drinking supply water.
Cross contamination can occur in various areas in the residence from the garden hose to the sprinkler system to an old hose on a faucet below the sink flood plain.
You may think it does not happen but it does- (Summary of Backflow Incidents)

If you have a backflow prevention device you may be want to contact a certified backflow assembly tester to evaluate your device. Here is a link to find a tester by you-Link
